Young Leaders

Scottish Golf’s Young Leaders Award programme was launched in 2019, funded by the Solheim Cup Development Fund. This exciting new initiative was created to inspire more young people to engage with golf through volunteering at school, club or community level, with a training programme delivered by qualified tutors through selected Local Authorities.

The programme provided young people aged 14 – 25 with training to help with the delivery of running fun and inclusive games, assisting with junior activities at schools and clubs and developing marketing initiatives to help recruit more young people into the game. The objectives of the programme are:

  • To increase the number of young females involved in volunteering roles within golf
  • To inspire more young people to take up golf and stay within the game
  • To provide an entry level qualification as a stepping-stone towards further golf coaching qualifications e.g. PGA Level 1
  • To improve links between golf clubs and schools

Our aim was to recruit up to 1,000 leaders over the 3 year period, with the programme available across the country, delivered by our expert team of tutors.

While the programme has now come to an end, there may be additional opportunities in the future. Any updates will be published here.
