Scottish Golf are extremely pleased to set out the plans for our Performance Programme for this coming season and beyond which represent a major step forward in our mentoring of you and your fellow next generation potential Open champions.
Since we announced their appointments back in October, Paul Lawrie and Catriona Matthew have been actively involved in shaping the new structure of the performance programme. They will be supported in the active delivery of the programme by performance coaches Spencer Henderson and Stuart Clayton.
The programme is aimed at developing players who can perform on the International stage. This is not just about improving your game – it is also about helping you prepare physically and mentally for competitive golf at the highest level. Very few people know what it is like standing over a three-foot putt to win a major Championship – but that experience, and knowledge is part of what Paul and Catriona will be bringing to you as part of their role in our programme.
In addition to the mentoring opportunity with Paul and Catriona, the programme will consist of:
The programme will consist of three distinct groups, each group offering a different level of support. In Group 1 direct support from Paul & Catriona will be integral to the programme providing previously unavailable access to them, including the unique opportunity of being able to talk to them about what it actually feels like standing over that three-foot putt to win a Championship. In groups 2 and 3 players will work with the wider performance team, with access to additional support as determined by the player development plan. In addition, we plan to offer the opportunity through other touch points to come together with players across the groups in a competitive environment.
We invite players who wish to be involved in the new performance programme to apply via the online application form should they meet the eligibility criteria. The application form is an important part of the process, the panel want to hear your goals and aspirations, as well as how you plan to achieve those goals and how you feel being supported by Scottish Golf can help you.
In addition to the application form, the panel will also consider the following factors:
All players who meet the eligibility criteria and wish to be part of the new performance programme must apply by the deadline of Sunday 7th February . Players who are based abroad (e.g. studying in the USA) can still apply to be supported using the same process. Players who don’t feel they meet all of the criteria can still apply and their application will be considered along with the additional factors listed.
Depending on the number of applications received, there may be an assessment day which will finalise the spots offered across 3 groups. Should it be required this assessment day will take place on Sunday 21st February (subject to Covid restrictions) all players should keep this day free in the event they are invited to attend and will be notified by 12th February if that is a requirement.
Late applications will not be accepted
Please note that meeting the eligibility criteria for application does not guarantee a place on the programme.
