The 2019 Solheim Cup at Gleneagles proved to be one of the most successful staging of the biennial matches in the event’s history, with record crowds attending and the most dramatic finish with Suzanne Peterson holing the winning putt in the final shot on the Sunday afternoon.
Clubs across Scotland contributed to the Solheim Cup success story through the innovative Club Ambassador programme, launched by European captain Catriona Matthew at the start of 2019 and taken up by 152 different clubs across the country.
The ambassador programme was designed to inspire more women to get involved in key roles at their club, running new events in Solheim Cup season, promoting tickets to the event and encouraging their fellow female members to take part.
We followed one Ambassador’s story all the way to Gleneagles…
Feedback from many of the ambassadors has encouraged Scottish Golf to continue the programme into 2020, supported by The R&A and using the AIG Women’s British Open at Royal Troon as the catalyst to get more women engaged in the game and taking on key roles at their club.
Look out for more information on this year’s activity coming soon.
